Rea Valley Ox Tongue (or Beef tongue) is the centrepiece of our chilled cooked meat portfolio and is one of two pasteurised meat products produced at Rea Valley. Made at our site in the heart of rural Shropshire, this richly flavoured favourite, has been a staple chilled meat for decades and has a loyal following with UK shoppers.

Our premium product is carefully trimmed and packed by hand by our team of experienced packers. Each takes the time to ensure each log is packed tight and evenly throughout, with each ox tongue roll precisely interleaved and pressed to give improved firmness and texture, with a deep rich marbled appearance. This care and attention results in an ox tongue that we believe is unsurpassed in quality and taste.

Ox tongue is now a firm favourite with an increasing number of shoppers and has seen a resurgence in the past few years, as consumers look to try something new.
In fact, many celebrity chefs have endorsed ox tongue as a rich and flavoursome ingredient, that has the ability to stand out on menus, to take it beyond the deli.
Ox tongue with lentils and green sauce is one such example from Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall, whilst cocktail bar ‘Boiler & Co’ offers up a grilled ox tongue with crispy potatoes, courtesy of chef (and Great British Menu finalist) Kerth Gumbs.
Ox Tongue can be boiled, pickled, roasted, or braised in sauce. It is found in many national cuisines and is used for taco fillings in Mexico and for open-faced sandwiches in the United States. In France and Belgium, it is served with Madeira sauce, whilst in Germany, they partner with horseradish cream, which is also popular in Polish cuisine.
